
Some British Triathlon race rules (simplified) - but not complete
For Novices to the sport the race rule book is quite large so here are a few important things to be aware of. Remember the rules are there to keep everybody safe, keep the racing fair and to help you enjoy the expirience
NO MOBILE PHONE USE IN TRANSITION - go outside to phone home
DON'T UNCLIP YOUR HELMET UNTIL YOU RACK YOUR BIKE - bike in hand must have helmet on.
NO NUDITY - torso and those 'other bits' covered at all times
TRISUIT FRONT ZIP - zipped up fully 100m from the Finish
NO HEADPHONES to be worn whilst racing -(that inclues the run)
NO DRAFTING ON THE BIKE - stay 12metres from the person in front (unless overtaking- but do it quickly)
OBEY THE HIGHWAY CODE - you may be in a race but the rules still apply.
Rule 2.1a. (iv) Obey local traffic regulations and instructions from Technical Officials and marshals;
NO OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE - this has to be a solo effort, so hang on to your own kit
Rule 2.1a.(viii) Compete without receiving assistance other than from event personnel and officials
RACE BIB NUMBERS MUST BE SHOWING - On the back for the bike , on the front for the run.
NO THREATENING OR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR - this will get you disquailified, so be NICE
Rule 2.1a.(vi) Avoid the use of abusive language;
CARRY OUT INSTRUCTIONS FROM RACE OFFICIALS - they are there for your safety & your race enjoyment
Rule 2.1 a.
(i) Practice good sportsmanship at all times;
(ii) Be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others;
(iii) Know, understand, and follow the British Triathlon Competition Rules, available from British Triathlon and on www.britishtriathlon.org;
